    Stormwater Upgrade in Live CBD Environment

    Red Wolf Construction was commissioned by JLL to address longstanding stormwater management challenges at Liberty Place, a prominent commercial and retail precinct situated in the heart of Sydney’s Central Business District. The scope of the project extended beyond typical civil works, requiring a meticulously planned and executed strategy tailored to the complexities of a live urban environment.

    Located within one of Sydney’s most heavily trafficked mixed-use corridors, the site presented unique logistical and operational hurdles. The team was tasked with implementing critical infrastructure upgrades while maintaining uninterrupted pedestrian access and ensuring the safety of the public, tenants, and workers at all times. This required close collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including local authorities, property managers, and commercial tenants.

    Operating under strict timeframes and stringent noise restrictions, Red Wolf Construction successfully delivered the project through a combination of agile project management, off-peak scheduling, and precision execution. The result was a seamless integration of essential stormwater improvements without disruption to the daily rhythm of Liberty Place—demonstrating the team’s expertise in delivering complex urban infrastructure solutions with minimal impact on the surrounding community.

    The Challenge

    Red Wolf Construction was engaged to resolve a recurring stormwater issue at Liberty Place, where major runoff from the building façade and flash flooding had begun infiltrating restaurants and creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians. The project site—an active public thoroughfare between Castlereagh and Pitt Streets—needed to remain fully operational throughout the works, as thousands of people transit this area each week. Additionally, Officeworks operated directly beneath the site, trading seven days a week and residential towers nearby imposed further restrictions on noise and working hours.

    The Solution

    To safely manage the live environment, Red Wolf Construction designed and installed custom barricading and reinforced road plates, enabling uninterrupted pedestrian access above the active construction zone. Demolition and construction works were scheduled exclusively after business hours and on weekends to avoid disruption to tenants, pedestrians and retail operations. Our team worked with precision and efficiency, maintaining high safety standards while adapting to strict access and noise limitations imposed by surrounding stakeholders.

    The Result

    The upgraded stormwater infrastructure included a new custom stainless steel grate system and expanded stormwater lines. Additional drainage points were installed outside the restaurant frontages to eliminate future flood risk. The completed system resolved the long-standing issue without impacting daily pedestrian flow or disrupting tenants—delivering a functional, safe and permanent solution in just six weeks. JLL commended Red Wolf Construction’s ability to operate discreetly and professionally in one of Sydney’s busiest mixed-use sites.
